Biography

Roger Hsia (b.1971, Durham, NC) aka "Roget8000" studied painting  at The Parsons School of Design, The University of Michigan, and The Art Students League.  

Roget8000's work explores the fault lines between abstraction and figuration.  The artist is interested in the intersections of painting and sculpture which manifest most notably in Roget8000's assemblage works. Also the distinction between society and nature - which is a continuing theme that appears evidently in his abstraction series.  Roget8000 navigates the cultural juxtaposition of East and West  by the artist's use of Calligraphic brush work and collage.  Roget8000 explores different levels of consciousness and memory through his studio practice of painting.  Roget8000 continues to push the physical and structural limits of paint,  by utilizing the material as a sculptural element on the canvas itself. 

Roget8000 currently lives and works in New York City.
