Roger Hsia (b. 1971, Durham, NC), also known as Roget8000, is a New York–based artist whose work moves between abstraction and figuration, painting and sculpture.
Drawing on a deep interest in materiality, memory, and cultural hybridity, Hsia incorporates calligraphic brushwork, collage, and sculptural applications of paint into his studio practice. His assemblage works blur boundaries between mediums, between East and West, and between the natural world and built environments.
At the core of Hsia’s work is an exploration of consciousness and form: a persistent inquiry into how structure, surface, and gesture can hold tension, beauty, and contradiction. He continues to challenge the formal limits of painting by treating the canvas as a site for construction as much as image-making.
Hsia studied painting at Parsons School of Design, the University of Michigan, and the Art Students League.
